Sera siempre conocido por su nombre artistico aunque su nombre verdadero es otro.

Al comienzo de los años 60 este cantante popularizó el TWIST, (en inglés significa algo asi como RETORCERSE, relacionado con esta palabra existe TWISTER, que quiere decir TORNADO y que en España da lugar a un tipo de helado infantil).

Este tipo de baile como su nombre indica es sumamente movido (lo he bailado de pequeño y siempre terminaba sudando) y sus letras eran simples y repetitivas, por lo que son muy fáciles de aprender.

Tuvo 5 canciones que vendieron cada una más de un millon de copias, en una epoca en que la gente compraba muy pocos discos.
